Village Design Statements
The Community Council are in the process of compiling a Village Design Statement (VDS), along with both the Aghabullogue & Rylane villages.
A VDS is a document that describes the distinctive characteristics of the locality, and provides design guidance to influence future development and improve the physical qualities of the area. This project is being funded by WCDP (West Cork Development Partnership). The purpose of this project is to design a plan to enhance and improve our locality in the years ahead.
URS, the company given responsibility for designing this project are scheduled to visit the three villages this weekend and shall be participating in a ‘walk about’ of the village areas. URS are seeking ideas and suggestions for inclusion in the design from all businesses in the core village area. Any suggestions you might have for any facilities or projects you feel would be of benefit to the locality to be included in this project would be very welcome.
It is envisaged that the greater community population shall have the opportunity to put forward all suggestions and ideas for inclusion when local workshops are held in the area in early November. Business’s, Community groups and local organisations are all invited to participate in the village “walk about” with URS this weekend, and the Community Council would be very grateful for your participation in this project. For further information on the walkabouts and/or the VDS for Aghabullogue, Coachford and Rylane please contact Peter on 086 80 30 086 or Martina on 087 27 10 831.

Cowardly emails

We received a comment on the recent vandalism at the Millennium Park and we would like to publish this persons comments on the Coachford News page as I’m sure the Tidy Towns committee would take constructive criticism but not putting a name to an email is a bit cowardly (almost as bad as spilling flowers out and running away!) We’re not sure why you have so much anger for the efforts of the Tidy Towns group, they are a new group with very little resources and really seem to be trying hard to improve the village in some way.

You obviously have very strong opinions about how the village could be improved. May we suggest you get involved in the group and point out where they could do things better or even fundraise for them or better still donate some money to them so they could get ‘actual’ flowerpots. At least you share common ground with the committee when you stated that you are ‘glad these simpletons didn’t do it earlier’ – at least that’s a start!

This culchie (your words) village of ours, you included, need more people to get involved and less people sitting at home finding fault with everything around them. So please stop whinging and moaning and complaining and hiding behind anonymous e-mails and do something useful.

If you’re from Coachford, get involved. If you’re not, then stop being jealous of our village and find some place you’re happy with.

Silly Simpletons attack Flower Tubs

Some poor mindless idiots decided on Saturday night to attack the flower tubs planted recently at the Millinium Park in Coachford. The drunken, jealous, fools rolled the planters along the footpath and spilled out the contents along the road. Why these simpletons undertook this destruction of these tubs no one, only themselves know. The tubs, planted by the Tidy Towns Committee helped to brighten up the area and were an excellent addition to the area. It can only be assumed that the stupid vandals saw something really offensive about plants and flowers.

Coachford Festival raises money for charity

Broomhill Vintage Club donated over €5,000 to Suicide Aware and local charities last weekend. The cheques were presented to the groups at a function last weekend. €2,250 was presented to Pat Behan of Suicide Aware who thanked all involved with the festival and said “That now, more than ever help is needed for so many more people who are going through a tough time. I would appeal to everyone to look out for the signs of depression and suicidal tendencies. People who die by suicide tend to suffer from anxiety or depression, symptoms of which may include loss of interest in activities, hopelessness, and short or long term thoughts of doom and gloom. Thoughts of suicide are not rational and talking through the issues can give them time to see and work through their difficulties and avoid any impulsive actions. Don’t be afraid to discuss suicide – asking about it won’t put the idea in someone’s head”. Cheques of €1,000 each were presented to Coachford Care of the Aged, Coachord Branch of St. Vincent de Paul and Coachford Tidy Towns. Pat O’Riordan, PRO of the Broomhill Vintage Club said, “We are absolutely delighted to be in a position to help out all of these groups who are doing wonderful work in our community. Since our first festival three years ago Broomhill Vintage club has donated over €14,000 to charity.”
