News from the Village May 23rd
Coachford Tidy Towns Association are appealing to all residents and visitors to Coachford to be careful how they dispose of their litter, cigarette butts and chewing gum. The group have entered Coachford in the Cork County Anti Litter competition and are hoping to improve on last year’s score. The PRO of the Association, Henry Delaney has pointed out that points will be lost for every piece of litter found inside the 50km speed limit boundary of the village. “ Coachford is a big village and one of the largest in the competition so we will have to try harder to keep our place tidy. It is the responsibility of all of us to dispose of our soft drinks bottles, coffee cups, sweet wrappers and chewing gum properly. I hope people realise that this is a great opportunity to show how Coachford can be a clean and tidy place to live in and to visit. This will benefit all of us. Don’t fling it – Bin it”

Under 12 soccer team advance in Cup
Congratulations and well done to the Killanardrish/Coachford under 12s who defeated Blarney United in the second round of the cup tonight at the Glebe. Both teams started well and Blarney showed their intent early on with quick probing runs down the middle of the pitch putting the home sides defence of Alan O’Sullivan, Jack O’Connor, Josh Martin and Tony Nolan under early pressure. Fifteen minutes into the game Killanardrish/Coachford’s midfield of Mark Murphy,Keelin O’Sullivan, Adam Murphy and Luke Casey worked hard to get the ball up to their strikers, Jack Oldham and Jack Murphy who fought hard and won a corner. From the resulting ball, Mark Murphy rattled the back of the net to put the home side ahead. However Blarney kept their composure and equalised ten minutes later. The second half saw Killanardrish/ Coachford a better side and their defence was solid throughout the next 30 minutes however both sides failed to score and the game went to extra time. With only one minute to go in the second half of extra time and the tie destined to end in penalties up stepped Jack Oldham to evade the defenders with some lovely footwork and give Luke Casey a wonderful pass for him to slot home the winner. The home side were much the better team and fully deserved the win.
Under 13s win 9 goal thriller
Coachford under 13s win a 9 goal thriller in the 2nd round of the cup.
It looked as if it was going to be easy for Killanardrish/Coachford in this 2nd round cup tie against Douglas Hall in Coachford as striker, Liam Twohig scored a cracker of a goal inside the first minute but Douglas Hall had other ideas when they scored from a superb free kick to level the game with only ten minutes on the clock. The city side then took the lead from a corner before Josh Martin equalised with an excellent goal after receiving a brilliant ball from Cathal Crowley. Douglas Hall continued to fight for the lead and they took it on 25 minutes with a well taken goal, however Josh Martin, who was playing some great football equalised again to make it three all at the break. The second half was as intense as the first with both sides very anxious to advance to round three and only three minutes into the half Douglas Hall pounced on a floating ball over the Coachford boys heads to take back the initiative and the lead. Calls for offside were ignored by the ref and the boys from Killanardrish/Coachford had to settled down again to try and equalise and they did, with an excellent strike from Luke Casey. 4-4 with only five minutes remaining. Josh Martin was proving to be a huge thorn in the city team’s side and when he embarked on a darting run down the wing and cut in to the box he was upended and a penalty was awarded. The ever cool Adam Murphy stepped up to slot the ball to the back of the net and Coachford emerged the winners by 5-4. Well done boys. Great game and great entertainment. Under 12s play in the cup tomorrow night (Tuesday) in Coachford at 7pm.

Under 15s play off for title.
Killanardrish/Coachford AFC under 15s enjoyed a superb win over neighbours Lakewood last weekend on a score line of 5-1 to end the season on the top of the table on equal points with Carrigtwohill. This result ensured that both teams must now play off for the title of Division 4 champions. Team manager Seamus Murphy said “ We are thrilled to be in this position after 16 very tough encounters. The lads played brilliantly all year. They are a very balanced team and although we have been scoring some great goals our defence has also been rock solid. The younger lads in the side at the start of the campaign have grown throughout the season and have developed as fine soccer players and young men and isn’t one of the benefits of sport” The final is expected to be played within the next ten days.

Dripsey Table Quiz
A huge number of people turned up to take part in and support the Table Quiz in aid of FRIENDS OF LEUKEMIA CORK held in Griffins Garden Centre, Dripsey last weekend. The quiz, organised by the Fitzgibbon family and the Dripsey Community Association was a tremendous success. Over €5,000 was raised for this worthy cause. Over 40 tables took part and everyone had a very enjoyable night filled with fun and good humour. A special word of thanks to Margaret Griffin for hosting the event and for turning off the wi-fi so everyone was forced to rely only on their wits and not Google.
