Winner alright

After three months of waiting the Coachford AFC lotto has found a winner. Pat O’Keeffe’s numbers of 9,18 and 28 were drawn out and he now collects a massive cheque of €3,600. “ We are delighted for Pat, It’s great to see someone winning a large amount of money and we look forward to building the jackpot up again over the next few weeks, said Peter O Riordan, Chairman of the soccer club. Next week’s jackpot starts off at a very nice €1,000 and tickets can be purchased right across the village.

Double Tops

The second leg of the quarter Final of the Muskerry Darts League takes place in Breathnach’s Bar on Friday night from 9pm. The hosts carry a 4-3 lead into the second leg having bounced back from being 3-1 one down early on in last Friday night’s contest in O’Riordan’s Bar Coachford. Both team managers were very confident during the week. Mary O’Sullivan of Breathnach’s Bar feels that home venue and support will suit the main street team, “the heat was cruel in O’Riordan’s Bar last week and our players are not used to that level of heating, I never saw so much coal on a fire. The sandwiches provided were tasty but our players are more used to hot food so we weren’t surprised that we struggled to begin with. Our main player Ger Carey should be fighting fit again this week and we are confident that he won’t play as bad as he did last time out.” Team Captain of O’Riordan’s Derry ‘Geoff’ O’Connell said that although we faltered towards the end we are looking forward to the second leg and heading downtown to the home of the champions and red hot favourites, Breathnach’s.  We are very envious of their highly trained team of semi professionals and internationally recognised players like Carey, the Martins and Casey but we’ll do our best to defeat them this time out.”

Table Quiz
The newly formed Dripsey Tidy Towns will host a table quiz in The Weigh Inn Bar Dripsey on Friday March 27th at 8.30pm. There will be prizes galore including Eater Eggs for the team with e least amount of correct answers . GAA Race night

The Horses have been purchased, the jockeys lined up and the races sponsored for the Aghabullogue GAA Race Night fundraiser in O’Riordan’s Bar Coachford on Saturday March 28th at 8.30pm.  A large crowd of punters, gamblers and Supporters are expected at the race night and there are prizes for best dressed male and female and best male hairdo. John Tarrant, treasurer of the Club said, “ it promises to be a great night  and we are all looking forward to a large crowd attending. There will be an auction also on the night so supporters are encouraged to bring a little spare cash and the cheque book. The lads organising it have put a huge amount of work into this. I’m not sure about the best male hairdo competition  but  I’ll be purchasing a few jars of Brylcream and some gel in order to give a bit of competition to the young lads.” There are still some races available to sponsor and people can also purchase horses and jockeys on the night. The tote betting office is expected to do a roaring trade.
