U17s National Cup

The Coachford U17 soccer team will host Willow Park from Athlone next Sunday at 2pm at the Glebe in Coachford in the quarter final clash of the FAI National Challenge Cup. This game was supposed to be played on March 4th but had to be postponed due to the snow storm that weekend. Willow Park will be favourites to go away with the win but  home advantage and recent form may see Coachford upset the odds. Home support is vital if the local lads have any chance of advancing to the semi final. “We are appealing to everyone to come out and support Coachford in this vital game for the boys. They have worked really hard to get to this stage of the competition and it would mean an awful lot for them to win.”  Said Paddy Martin team coach.

A big thank you to Mr Tony O’Connell of “CONTAINMENT SERVICE PROVIDERS” for their generous sponsorship of a full set of kit for our schoolboys club.Sponsorship at this level is always hard to come by and the club is greatly appreciative when it does come by. Without this level of corporate sponsorship the club would not survive.

March 11th

Another weekend of frustration for Coachford AFC as yet again the weather impacted on 2 of the clubs games being forced to be postponed. The Premier team and the Under 16s away games were called off however the pitch in the Glebe was able to accommodate today’s U17 clash. The boys won easily but it came at a price with Luke Casey being carried off with a very serious leg injury which will put him in doubt for the U17 FAI National Cup quarter Final.

Dubbed locally as ‘Soccer Super Sunday’ the Coachford AFC Premier adult team will be first to play on Sunday March 4th when they line out against Mayfield side, Village United at 10.45am. This is a big game for the lads as hopes for winning the league fade, this cup competition becomes very important if they hope to pick up any silverware this season. The lads qualified for the quarter final after defeating Pearse Celtic on penalties 14-13 in the previous round. The  Coachford U17s will line out at 2pm against Athlone side, Willow Park in the quarter final of the FAI National U17 Cup. The Youth team have captured the imagination of the community with their stunning performances and work rate throughout the competition so far. The boys have already won the Cork league and are now anxious to secure a semi-final place and ultimately the double this season. “We are very lucky to have these two big games at home and we are asking that our supporter come out to cheer on both teams. Home advantage is a great boost to any side but it will only benefit the lads if the supporters come and support them and cheer them on in both games. Coachford V Buttevant at the Glebe on Sunday 4/02/18 at 10am

Coachford AFC continue to defy all the odds and maintain their presence in the top tier of the Cork AUL league. The adult team have played 7 games so far this season and are in third place on the table. The next few games will be vital for the lads and the ever encroaching GAA season could have a negative effect on their ability to put their best team out for every game.

The under 17s have their league won and are now preparing for the last 16 game against Oranmore in the FAI Under 17s Challenge Cup.

The Under 16s are halfway through their season and are well placed to finish in the top two or even finish as champions.
