Drainage and flooding issues continue in Coachford.
Cork County Council engineers visited Coachford last weekend to witness for themselves the huge drainage issues that were continuing to cause problems for the home owners and businesses in the village. Pumping of the sewers and drains was ongoing for two weeks around the clock while no concrete proposal on the rectifying of this 25 year old mess seemed to be on the cards. However a major blockage was found on Wednesday and the sewers and drains were jet cleaned today, Thursday. This work while very welcome will not rectify the drainage issues in the village in the long term. Meanwhile the roads in the area are deteriorating every day and many are littered with craters that require careful negotiation from drivers. There are fears that once again the needs of Coachford will be put on the long finger by the council and only quick repair jobs on the drainage and road repairs will be carried out rather than the extensive upgrading and investment that these areas require.
