College wins County Title
Congratulations to the Coachford College Senior B team who defeated Carrignavar by 11 points to 7 in the county Hurling Final last weekend. The team playing in their new strip sponsored by Cooney’s Quick Pick were winning by 6 points to 2 at a very wet and windy Carrigaline pitch . The second half was a very tight affair with both teams enjoying periods of domination how ever it was the Lee Valley boys who emerged victorious. This along with the senior Camogie title won last month has proven to be one of the schools most successful years in a long time. The Coachford College team is made up of players from Aghabullogue, Dripsey Aginagh, Donoughmore, Inniscarra, Éire Óg, Canovee and Cloughduv clubs
Dreaming of a Green Christmas
Coachford Tidy Towns are urging people to recycle throughout Christmas. Chairperson Martha McCaffery said ” We are asking everyone to make sure they do their very best to dispose of their bottles, cans, and other recyclable materials carefully over the Christmas and New Year period. There are bottle banks in Coachford, Aghabullogue, Macroom Ballincollig and Inniscarra so if you one find one full there are always other options. Christmas Draw
The Inniscarra Lake Tourism Development Company Limited are holding a Christmas draw to raise money for the maintenance and the upkeep of the very popular Greenway. Tickets are only €2 each or three for €5 and the fantastic prizes include tickets to see Manchester United, a weekend in Killarney and a family Portrait. Tickets can be purchased in all the shops and pubs in Coachford and the draw takes place in O’Callaghan’s Bar on December 30th.
Natural Gas in Concert
The 5 piece band , ‘Natural Gas’ will play their Christmas Concert live in O’Riordan’s Bar Coachford on Wednesday December 30th. The band, known all over the world will belt out their very popular hits all night in this intimate venue. The concert is free of charge and promises to be a rip roaring night full of party atmosphere and Christmas cheer .
2016 Calendar
Aghinagh Comhaltas has just published their 2016 Calendar. Each month features a beautiful painting by members of the Coachford Atelier Art Group. The calendar costs only €10 and is aid of Marymount Hospice. Copies are available in the local shops and would make a lovely Christmas present.
Penny Dinner fundraiser
A vintage and Classic Car & Tractor run takes place from Coachford to Blarney on this Sunday, December 27th to raise funds for Cork Penny Dinners. Registration for the run takes place in O’Riordan’s Bar Coachford from 11am with cars and tractors setting off for Blarney at 12.30pm. For further information contact Tim on 086 8663729.
Christmas safety
The Aghabullogue, Coachford Rylane Community Council are asking people to keep an out for elderly relatives and neighbours this Christmas. The council want everyone to look in on their neighbours to ensure that they are okay and have sufficient supplies of Food, fuel and medicines over the holiday period. The council are also asking that everyone is extra vigilant in relation to security of their homes and properties during this period. ” we are all well aware that burglars do not take holidays and will seize on any opportunity to raid empty houses and destroy Christmas for people. We would also ask those parking near the Greenway to not leave any valuables in their cars and generally keep an eye out and let the Gardai in Macroom or Coachford know of anything that looks out of the ordinary or suspicious”
