Fridges looking to be born again
Fridges, Freezers, TVs, kettles, Hair Straightners, Computer screens, Mobile phone chargers and everything else with a plug or a battery can be recycled for free on Saturday at Coachford Church Car park from 10am to 4pm this Saturday, July 11th. The event jointly organised by Coachford Tidy Towns, WEEE Ireland and Cork County Council was a huge success last time out with over 9 tonnes of recyclable electrical equipment collected in Coachford last year. Grainne Donovan of the local Tidy Towns Committee said, “we are encouraging everyone to go through their garages, sheds, spare rooms and attics to see if there are any old or broken equipment that are no longer being use by you and to bring them to the church car park nest Saturday.”
Break ins at Greenway
Four cars have been broken in to at the Greenway car park over the last few weeks and users of the riverside walk are being urged not to leave valuables in their cars while they head off for their walk. The Greenway opened in June 2014 has been a huge success and sees hundreds use the walkway every week. The recent break ins at the Greenway and at Farran Woods are being investigated by Gardai.
Festival preparations in full swing
The organisers of the Coachford Autumn Festival are busily preparing for what promises to be the biggest and busiest festival ever. “ We are really looking forward to this year’s event as we have new items added to the weekend and we are also retaining some of the favourites from the last few years. The Sheep racing is back as is the brilliant Dunk Tank. We have added the ‘Junior Voice of the Festival’ and this promises to be a great night out on Thursday August 13th. The 5 Mile road race is back again this year and we are expecting entries to be up on last year for this superb run around the roads of the village.” Said Kieran Doherty, PRO Broomhill Vintage Club.
