Coachford is open for Christmas

Everyone in the village is preparing for Christmas .  The Church is open to all and everyone is welcome to discover the real reason we celebrate Christmas. The Crib will be in place over the next few days and the choirs are busy rehearsing for the ceremonies. The village has been decorated beautifully with new Christmas lights that add a bit of sparkle and magic to the village. The shops are stocked up with everything you could need for Christmas and the new year and gifts galore are available to buy. The pubs have music laid on for the entire holiday season and there promises to be a wonderful atmosphere in all three of them. Everything from petrol vouchers to perfume fragrances can be bought for your nearest and dearest. Dare to be different this year and keep your business in the village.

 

Coachford Fare

The Annual Coachford Christmas Market takes place this Saturday from 10.30am to 1.00pm in the GAA Hall. Santa Claus has promised to visit the market again this year and is inviting children of all ages to come and meet him there. . The Coachford market promises to be jam packed with beautiful food, Christmas Cakes, Books, Cheese, Jams, Cranberries, Vegetables, Knitwear, Sweets, Jewelry, cards and other crafts. It is a great place to meet your neighbours and friends. and to experience what a real local market is all about.

 

School carols

A mass with Carols will be celebrated on Friday December 19th at 10.00am in Coachford for the school community of Coachford National School. Parents, grandparents and other family members are kindly invited to attend.Meanwhile the Parents Association of Coachford National School have produced a very lovely calendar for 2015. The calendar features all the students and is very well produced. It would make a beautiful gift for those who may have relatives in the school or for those who might be living and working away from home and want to have something that is very unique to Coachford.

 

 

Bring your Brains

 

Coachford AFC will host a table quiz next Saturday night, December 13th in O’Callaghan’s Bar. Tables of four is only €40 and it promises to be a great night out with spot prizes, finger food and craic. There are even cash prizes for the top team. The quiz kicks off at 8.00pm and although it is being organised by the soccer club they are guaranteeing that there will be a variety of questions for everyone.

 

 

AGM

The Annual General meeting of the Coachford Players took place earlier this week. In her report to the meeting the outgoing chairperson, Diane Searls outlined the very busy year the group had in 2014 and thanked all those who took part onstage and backstage. Willie Barrett was elected as Chairperson for the coming year and in his acceptance speech thanked the group for the honour of electing him. Willie said although the group has never been stronger a lack of a permanent rehearsal space is a real issue that must be worked on.  The groups next production will be a full length play towards the end of March.

 

 

Soccer Fixtures

Killanardrish/Coachford under 14s travel to Mahon on Sunday to take on Ringmahon Rangers at 10.30am in the league. This will be the boys last game of 2014 as they take a break from games over the Christmas season. The adult teams are also in action this weekend. The premier team entertain city side Pearse Celtic at the Glebe on Saturday at 2.00pm while the B team play Bweeng Celtic on Sunday at 2.00pm in Carrigadrohid.

 

 

Coachford Lotto climbs to €3,000

There was no winner of the Coachford AFC Lotto this week  The numbers drawn were: 6 ,13, and  24, The Lucky Dip winners were , €40 Kate O’ Mahony, and  Eric Murphy, Geraldine Barry Murphy, Marie & Terry (), Pat O’ Keeffe each received €20. Next Week’s Jackpot will be €3,000 . Tickets are available in the local bars and shops and from club members.

 

Artists Calendar

Local Coachford artists in association with Aghinagh Comhaltas have produced a beautiful calendar in aid of Marymount Hospice. The Calendar features paintings by the artists of local scenes, and some other wonderful works to brighten up the 12 months of 2015. The calendar is on sale in local outlets for €10 and is an ideal Christmas gift
