Coachford National School boys emerged victorious in a thrilling Sciath na Scoil football Final played in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Tuesday. Gael Scoil Midleton provided the formidable opposition in one of the best games played in the finals this year. These two teams gave their all out on the field of play in a most compelling game of football which saw great skill and determination from both sides. Coachford went into an early lead but Midleton quickly levelled and at half time the teams were level at 1.03 each. In the second half the game ebbed and flowed again and Midleton went into the lead with 7 minutes left but Coachford refused to lie down and equalised with two minutes to go. The referee blew for full time and both teams readied themselves for extra time. Coachford proved to be the better side in the two 5 minute halves that followed and had two goal chances cleared off the line. The decisive score came with four minutes left in the clock when Jack Oldham scored the winning point from a free kick. Wild celebrations broke out amongst the huge support from the Coachford National School children, teachers and parents. There were some fine performances in the Coachford Team and it would be difficult to single out any individual but Ardghal O’Buachalla had a wonderful game in goals and kept Coachford in the game when the pressure was on.
Adam Murphy opened the scoring for Coachford with a fine point and Jack Oldham then scored the first of this three points. Jack Moynihan scored a well take goal while Joshua Martin also scored a superb point. Coachford had quality all over the field in this 1.05 to 1.04 result and all the players should be very proud of their achievement.
Congratulations to all the players, the substitutes and their coaches, Mr. O’Flynn and Mr. Horan.
