Coachford to honour their Achievers
The Community Council are holding their second Annual Achievers Awards on November 9th. Nomination forms are available in all the shops in the parish. If you know someone who you think should be honoured by the community for something they have achieved in the past year or years then please nominate them. Completed nomination forms should be dropped into Coachford Post Office, Gala, Cooneys Quik Pick., Rylane Post Office or Cremins in Aghabullogue. Deadline for completed forms is October 27th. Last years winners came from the fields of Industry, Sports and Community.
County Champions
Congratulations to the Aghabullogue U14 Camogie Girls on their fantastic achievement of being crowned U14 A League County Champions 2013 following their great victory over Milford/Ballyhea on Saturday 12th October. The girls won on a scoreline of 3-06 to 3-04 following an epic game of Camogie. Well done to all involved.
Coachford Drama
Coachford Players are taking part in the All Ireland One Act Drama Festival competition again this year. Their first Festival is in Ballincollig on Friday October 18th when they present NINE, a psychological drama by American author Jane Shepard . The two characters in the play are played by Maura Lucey and Diane Searls. Direction is by Anthony Greene. The group reached the All Ireland Finals last year and are hoping for similar success this time around. Other Drama Festivals which Coachford have been invited to perform at are; Kilmallock, Cork, Rossmore and Haulbowline . Make sure you get to see the play and these fine actors at least once.
Coachford Local Market
The next Market takes place on Saturday October 19th from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Please support the market. Everyone is welcome and the committee are always looking for more local people to come and sell their own produce at the Market. Contact Martha on 086 1949569 for more information.
Train full of History
To mark the 125th anniversary of the opening of the Muskerry Tram line between Cork’s Western Road and Coachford in 1887, a special slide show presentation and talk by historian Tim O’Brien covering the rail line’s journey to Mid-Cork up to its closure in 1934 will take place in Hogan’s, The Village Inn in Coachford on Saturday 19th October at 7.30pm. This promises to be a fascinating talk and people are invited to come along with their stories of the old railway stations in Coachford and Peake and the stops along the route of the Muskerry Tram. Admission is free however donations in aid of Marymount Hospice would be greatly appreciated
Karate Kid
Congratulations and the best of luck to Coachford girl, Kayleigh Dilworth who won a silver medal in the recent British Open Karate Championships inGlasgow. Kayleigh is a member of the Cloghroe Karate Club and will be representing Ireland in the upcoming World Karate Federation Junior and Cadet World Karate Championships in Guadalajara, Spain from November 7th to 10th in the Under 15 category
Coachford GIY
The Coachford Grow It Yourself Group are back meeting after their summer break. During the summer the members enjoyed garden tours of some members vegetable gardens and also took part in a Composting workshop. The group are planning their Autumn/Winter Programme and have recently ordered some Garlic bulbs to plant for the long winter ahead. The groups next meeting is October 30th in Hogans where various winter gardening problems and opportunities will be discussed. The group are hosting a Wine and Beer making workshop on Sunday November 3rd from 1.30pm to 6.30pm. The cost for the course is only €30 but places are limited. Schoolboy’s victories
The Coachford/Killanardrish Under 13s and 14s won both their league games at the weekend. The under 13s secured a superb 1-0 win overDouglas and the under 14s came from two goals down to beat Ballincollig 3-2 at home on Sunday. This weekend the under 13s play the second round of the National Cup against Carrigaline at home on Saturday at 1.15pm. The Under 16s travel to Lyre on Saturday to take on the home side also in the National Cup at 2.00pm. The under 12s are also in cup action this weekend. The boys will entertain Riverstown on Sunday at 10.30am in the Danone Cup.
Last weekend the Premier team enjoyed a 6-0 win over Everton united in the 2nd round of the FAI Junior Cup while the B team secured a 2-2 draw away to Glanworth in the league.This weekend the Premier League team play Innishvilla in the League on Saturday afternoon at 3.00pm while on Sunday the B team play Crescent in the Regional park on at 10.45am in the second round of the President’s Cup.
Lotto
There was no winner of the Coachford AFC lotto this week. The numbers drawn were 5, 23 and 35. The luck dip winners were Sharon O Leary (€40),Stephen Murphy, Colm + Sarah, Cait Cronin and Sheila McSweeney (€20 each). Next week’s jackpot is €3,600 and the draw takes place in O’Callaghan’s Bar.
