a safe talk on suicide prevention will be given free of charge by the West Cork Mental Health services on the 12th March from 7pm-10pm and will be held in the youthreach centre in Macroom. This talk is open to anybody from the community over 18 years, who would like to learn signs to help detect and prevent suicide.
“Safetalk is a half-day training programme that prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. These specific skills are called suicide alertness and are taught with the expectation that the person learning them will use them to help reduce suicide risk in their communities. Following a safeTALK workshop you will be more willing and able to perform an important helping role for persons with thoughts of suicide.”
If any members or persons from the community are interested in attending this talk, please phone or email the coordinator of Macroom youthreach Ms Ann o Riordan on 026 43733 or firstname.lastname@example.org before the 5th March.

Over 60s Talent Show
The young join with the young at heart to bring the Over 60’s Talent Competition to Coachford.
The Foróige Youth Group are hosting a heat of the very popular talent show on Sunday March 25th. The talent show which is run all over Cork is in its 42nd year and is open to everyone from Cork who is over 60 or will turn 60 in 2018.
“We are so excited about being asked to host this event. We were thrilled when talent show organiser, Paddy O’Brien approached us to host the Coachford Heat. We see it as a great opportunity for us to get more involved with those older than us and to learn from them and to share our experiences.” Said Emer Barry Murphy, Club PRO.
The show will take place in the Coachford GAA Hall on Sunday March 25th at 3pm. The man behind the whole concept, Paddy O Brien visited the teenagers at Coachford Foróige last week to speak to the members about the talent show and how important it is to interact with the older generation and to get involved in their lives.
“Older people have so much to offer the young in every community. This talent show is a unique opportunity for the over 60’s to have a bit of fun, show what they can do and share with their friends, family and the young people how talented they are. We are looking for singers, musicians, story tellers or comedians to come and join us in Coachford on March 25th.”
