Delay in permission for Fishing development

There was  huge disappointment in Coachford this week when news came through from Cork County Council that the planning permission for the River fishing facility in Nadrid was going to be delayed due to a few objections from some householders and farmers along the route. This delay in the planning process has put the world Feeder Angling Championship project at risk. The group of community people who worked on this project for the last few years were devastated at this latest development. They have worked extremely hard to try and bring the 2014 World Angling Championships to the river Lee. Chairman  of the local group, Matt Sheehan said ‘ This is a terrible outcome for the project but also for the local area and the economy of Mid Cork.

This development does make good economic since not only would it pay for itself with one event like a World Championship which should generate up to €1.5 million euros in to the this Cork region. This will sustain as well as create jobs in this region of Cork. For example; with a possibility of up to 500 people been involved directly during a World Championship event, anglers, managers, officials, stewards etc. for an eight night period, this alone would have provided a huge economic benefit to this region. We are now hoping that when our chance for hosting this hugely important event for Ireland, Cork and Mid Cork comes around in the not too distant future that we’ll be ready for it’

The Premier team were involved in a thriller last weekend when they playe out a 4-4 draw with Pearse Celtic. Both teams were reduced to 9 players as tempers frayed during this most competitive game. The local lads went 2-0 up and looked to be coasting only for the city side to pull one back. Coachford then scored another goal to make it 3-1. Pearse Celtic then got the better of the Coachford lads and scored the next three goals to lead the game with only minutes left. However there was another twist left in this tie and Coachford pulled out all the stops to rescue a very important point by scoring the equaliser in the dying moments of this thriller. This weekend the boys have another top of the table clash when they travel to Mitchelstown to take on Park United on Sunday with a 10.45 kick off. On next Tuesday they entertain Killumney at 6.30pm in the Glebe.
