Coachford couple win €4,000 for their house

Ducon Concrete – A Winner for Coachford Home
In recent years more house owners are using precast hollowcore slabs as a cost effective solution in
house construction. With this in mind Ducon Concrete Ltd based in Kanturk launched a competition
last year offering the winner a chance to win back the cost of floor slabs installed in their house, up
to the value of €4000. The competition saw entrants from far and wide and the winner was drawn on December 8th at Ducon’s offices in Ballymaquirk.
The winner, Darren Rooney, a native of Portlaoise and his wife Mary Bridget from Coachford are in
the process of constructing their new house in Coachford. They are currently living in Portlaoise with
their young children and commuting as often as possible to Coachford to oversee completion of their
new house which they hope to move into this summer.
The decision to put concrete floors and concrete stairs in their new house, according to the couple,
was an easy one. They both work shift-work and with their young family they wanted to put
underfloor heating and block walls at ground and first floor levels; sound-proofing their house to a
high standard. Ducon Concrete, in the provision of CE approved precast concrete products, provided
the solutions to meet these requirements.
Darren and Mary Bridget employed the services of Crowley Construction (Bandon) Ltd. to build their
house. Crowley’s have been building houses to an extremely high standard for years. Indeed,
Crowley’s have a close working relationship with Ducon Concrete and have had precast concrete
floors and stairs fitted on their jobs for a long number of years.
