Aghabullogue Intermediate Footballers started their life in Division 2 with a loss to Newmarket. The boys played well at times but were up against a team who seemed to have a lot more work done in the closed season than Aghabullogue had. The boys were without David Thompson (injured), Mark Long (soccer duty) and Paul Ring (Coachford College duty). They also started off with David Moynihan in goal as regular keeper, John Buckley will miss a lot of the season due to travel plans. David was a big loss out the field in this physical match. Newmarket led by 2.06 to 5 points at half time and Aghabullogue found it difficult to break down the North Cork defence. The boys second half performance was much better and their fast flowing football which was very evident last year was again on display.
The introduction of Ian Barry Murphy, returning after a long lay off due to injury, provided the lads with a much needed injection of pace up front. This led to a very strong finish by the boys . Hopefully this game will stand to them as the season continues next Sunday when they are due to play Illen Rovers. Final Score Newmarket 2.13 Aghabullogue 1.09
